The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted all aspects of our lives… including real estate transactions. At Ryan Minges Real Estate, we’ve heard from a number of homeowners who are curious to know if it’s even possible for them to list and sell in the midst of so much uncertainty.
Such questions are totally understandable, and to help answer them, we’ve put together a quick home selling FAQ. Here’s everything you’ve been wanting to know about selling your home during a pandemic.
FAQ: How to Sell Your Home During a Pandemic
Is it possible to sell my home right now?
The short answer to this question is yes! Now, any time you’re thinking about selling, there are a number of factors you’ll want to think about, ensuring a real estate sale makes sense for you financially and logistically, and that it’s ultimately in the best interests of your family. In fact, current real estate markets are characterized by low inventory and high prices, so you may be able to sell and make a nice profit.
What about safety?
Obvious, health and safety are top concerns for all of us right now. So what are some steps we can take to minimize the risk of infection during your home sale?
First, if anyone in your household has COVID or tests positive for the virus, make sure you tell your agent ASAP; this will allow you to suspend showings until you’re past the point of being contagious, ensuring none of your house hunters get infected.
We’d also encourage you to talk with your agent about steps that can be taken to keep showings safe. Some examples include staggering showings to minimize the people in your house at one time; requiring all visitors to wear masks; encouraging other agents to conduct “virtual showings” for their buyers; and ensuring your agent sanitizes everything in your home after a showing.
Is this a good market for sellers?
Actually, yes; houses are really selling! Again, we’re seeing reasonably low inventory and high prices. If you’d like to talk more about specific conditions in the Charlotte market, contact our team any time.
If I choose to sell right now, will I have a lot of competition?
It’s unlikely. Right now, a lot of homeowners are cautious about selling. But we’d still recommend doing everything in your power to ensure a quick sale, like pricing competitively, staging effectively, etc. Our team can help you with all of this and more.
Can I insist on virtual showings only?
This is possible, though not ideal. If you have a high-risk person in your home and feel more comfortable doing online showings only, talk to your agent about the logistics.
